{Calligraphy Monday} Family Tree Project

One of the best parts about doing what we do is getting to know our clients on a personal level.

Oftentimes we share in aspects of their lives that are not only personal and important, but are memories in the making. It is truly a privilege.

One recent example of this privilege is when we had the opportunity to create and illustrate a family tree project for a client.

After hours of planning how the design would look in a large, illustrated format, Jillian began the process of meticulously writing each person's name, years, and important locations on the paper.

She also drew the illustrations by hand, based on inspirations from the client.

The family crests were incorporated as well.

What an honor it was to share in the history of this client's family!

The time, planning, and attention to detail paid off to create a family heirloom that will hopefully be treasured for generations to come! Thank you, Lou, for allowing us to help you create this special representation of your family's history.

{Frosting Friday} Sweet Prom Idea & A Recipe for Fun

Buying the tickets, finding the perfect dress, booking dinner reservations, nervously asking your date....it's officially the midst of prom season! While prom memories may be a distant memory (hey, not that distant, right? ;) for many of us, you may still have a daughter, son, sister, brother, cousin, niece, nephew, etc. going through all the excitements and emotions of going to prom.

My sweet brother JayCee is going to his senior prom this year, and wanted a creative way to ask his friend Felicia to be his date.

Felicia just got accepted to cooking school, and JayCee was planning on giving her some cookbooks to congratulate her. Together we came up with the creative idea of asking her to prom by telling her that his favorite recipe was on page 216.

This is where 2 Hearts B 1 Designs came into play!

I designed this "Recipe for Friendship & Joy" and carefully adhered it page 216...

At the bottom, it reads, "Will you do me the honor of going to prom with me?"

Of course she said yes! Who could resist such a sweet offer?

Aren't they adorable???

Needless to say, it was the "perfect recipe" for a night of fun and friendship, seasoned with joy and laughter.

Puppy Love

Many of us have furry companions in our lives that are truly part of the family; whether it's a big bounding labrador or soft cuddly kitten,
they have a wonderful way of making a warm place in our hearts.

That is why when we lose one of these precious friends, we can be at a loss about how to commemorate and honor them. 

We recently had a client come to us with the same dilemma; Chad and his wife had recently lost their sweet dog of 16 years, Lexi. Chad wanted to do something special as a surprise for his wife in memory of their precious companion.

With advisement and direction, he matted beautiful photos that captured Lexi's playful life. She was a mother, a show dog, and the heart of their household. In the center of the collage is featured an inscription to commemorate Lexi. We got the joy of helping Chad lay out his wording and inscription to make the center of his collage complete.

What a wonderful way to remember their sweet companion.

Thank you Chad for letting us be a part of your heartfelt project. It's truly puppy love!

{Event} Game of Thrones

Recently I had the pleasure of participating in a special event for the premier of HBO's original series Game of Thrones. 

The Season 3 premiere was at Grauman's Chinese Theater (now called TCL Chinese Theater), where the red carpet was abuzz with the stars of the series.

The after party for the premiere was held at the iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

The event space was transformed as if you stepped into another world from another time.

The hotel was filled with nooks and areas for guests to try their hand at activities like archery, get their fortunes told, watch fire dancers, stilt walkers, jugglers, and belly dancers as they entertained and interacted with onlookers. All of the talent was hired by a fabulous group that I got the chance to meet and be associated with called Fire Groove. With their assistance, they turned this event into an unforgettable experience.

Musicians kept the party hopping as celebrities, HBO executives,

and invited guests mingled and feasted.

Kathryn Murray, a respected colleague of mine, and I got ready prior to the event by getting our hair and makeup done, and dressing in costumes representative of the time period.

Here I am with Kathryn as part of the artistic crew of calligraphers at this station, where guests could get their souvenir of the famous Game of Thrones map (which is featured in the credits) personalized with their own House name in medieval gothic-like typestyle.

It was wonderful getting to spend time doing what I love at such an amazing event, with one of my favorite fellow calligraphers!

{Special Project} Survival Kits

Ever wondered how to break the ice with a new group of people? Whether it be coworkers, organization members, or colleagues, sometimes its nice to have an "ice breaker" activity to help get the conversation flowing.

We wanted to share a recent project we did for Medtronic to serve this purpose.

We put together a "Survival Kit" to help the team members during their board meeting to get to know each other, build morale, and to realize they are all in the same boat together.

We simply filled a kraft paper bag with all kinds of goodies....

{Special Project} Monique Lhuillier Trunk Show

Happy Monday everyone! What a busy weekend we had! Lots of photos to come this week from our latest events and special projects.

Last week, we had the privilege of collaborating with Sweet E's Bake Shop on some favors for Monique Lhuillier. They were having a trunk show on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at their store on Melrose, and Sweet E's provided these gorgeous cake pops for the event.

We were asked to create coordinating tags to go on the cake pops.

We were very pleased with how they turned out and we hope the brides enjoyed them!
